Inspired by a trip to beautiful Portugal, where artistic ceramic tiles in many different colours and patterns embellish many of the charactaristic white houses, I have made textile tile designs as appliqué with embroidery.
In this design package you get the two smaller sizes of my Portuguese Tiles for the 5 x 7" (13 x 18 cm) hoop in 2 sizes and each size in 3 variants - a total of 6 TILE DESIGNS.
PLEASE NOTE! These are digital files for machine embroidery and NOT PHYSICAL ITEMS - you'll need an embroidery machine to make them
I have used the tile designs to embellish the backs of some summer shirts made from recycled men's shirts :-)
TIP! In the design order, you'll notice a lot of thread changes - 3 for each appliqué part and there are quite some in each tile - these steps are made to make the machine stop between each step in the appliqué, however you JUST USE THE SAME THREAD FOR ALL THE STEPS AND ALL THE APPLIQUÉ PARTS - find one that co-ordinates with your fabric or one that makes a nice contrast :-) It is also a lot of fun to make the patterns in your fabric repeat itself in each round of the tile - like on the second last photo - the light blue top on the back.
