Last night, I launched new designs in my shop: Flowers in Vases

This blog post is about how they 'came to be'...

I am sure you all know about this feeling - having some fabric that is SO nice that you almost don't (or won't) dare cutting it - or at least you wonder about it, looking at it from more sides ... your creative brain is considering what nice projects you can make with this - and they are numerous, right?

And therefore your reluctance to simply go ahead with one of the ideas in mind, is fed by the thoughts of all the OTHER nice things, you could make with EXACTLY these nice pieces, right?

Well, I admit - I am exagerating a bit here ;-) - it's to enhance the understanding and to set the 'scene' for this blog post

At the beginning of this week, I had decided to make a new garden flag ... however for some reason my mind wanted to make flowers - some more crochet flowers, that I had on my Mac desk as little 'seeds' ...

The initial crochet style flower

And then the mail woman came, and she brought some new fabrics that I had ordered last week - well, then the garden flag lost the battle to the flowers and the new fabric

The aquarelle technique batik fabrics

I started the flowers as embroidery, only - the crochet style that I right now find quite fascinating :-) And on linen with matte ordinary, good quality sewing threads

... however after making some of those and a border for a table runner... , the beautiful, aquarelle technique Batik fabric called for brighter flowers..., and in fact, instinctively and very suddenly, I was in flow and have been for more days this week - drawing, creating and stitching flowers - and it has been SO good :-) - SIMPLY, the state of mind that I really cherish and love when I am there

During the process, I wanted to make some of the flowers with fabric appliqué centers, as well, and that is where the ring is closed and we're back at the beginning, where I mentioned having fabric, that you really consider thoroughly before cutting...

For myself, I had also ordered a Tilda Jelly Roll and it came with the batiks

Tilda Jelly Roll - Quilt Collection

I wanted to use some of the Tilda fabrics for the flowers, so that I later would be able to frame the work that I planned with the strips to match - and then I came to think... didn't I also have some Tilda Charm Packs, somewhere?...

Oh, yes - and in order to find those, I dragged out a lot of my stash, which is now on the sofas waiting to be sorted..., HOWEVER I found the Charm Packs :-)

Lazy Days - Tilda Charm pack

Quite some of the fabrics in the Charm Pack had larger patterns than I remembered, not so suited as centers for flowers, so that was then I came to think, how nice these patterns would look as little vases, that could display them, fully ... and 1,2 ...4 - the process with the crochet style flowers had evolved and was now about Flowers in Vases

Lazy Days - the name of the Tilda Charm Pack

From Charm pack to vases ...

As you can see here - one thing led to another and by the end of the days... I had made two series of vases with flowers - and the colours for the flowers were inspired by the colours in the fabrics - I HAD SO MUCH FUN - and I was indeed in flow :-)

Now, it's Saturday - the MugRugs with all the vases and flowers as single elements for you to play with, are in my shop - and I have quite some 'working-in-flow-mess' to tidy up - but that is how things work the best for me - HAVE FUN and then clean up the mess, afterwards :-) - Skipper - my collie - agree - only he prefere relaxing to flow...

Skipper doesnt mind the mess

An art therapist once told me this...

''You can always do the dishes when you're tired, but you can't create when you're tired'' ... and this has become an important part of my philosophy about creativity and flow...

Let that be the end of this blog post :-)

HAPPY STITCHING
